Jose Mourinho Expects Lower ‘Quality and Intensity’ When Premier League Returns

The English league has been shut down for 3 months due to the coronavirus pandemic. The EPL community welcomed the news of a provisional restart of the league with open arms. The league is set to restart on June 17, 2020.

There have been several training programs put in place to ensure that trainings and matches are conducted in a safe environment. Teams are stepping up their training programs to accommodate the protocols for limited contact with further advancements set to come into play soon.

However, with only 3 weeks away from the kick-off, there are a lot of uncertainties around the possibilities of friendlies. Mourinho give fans a heads-up not to set a very high expectation for the league straightaway.

During an interview, he said that,

“We’re going to make sure that progressively we’re going to arrive on matchday one and be ready”

Mourinho said after confirming that Harry Kane, Moussa Sissoko, Son Heung-min and Steven Bergwijn would all be on the training ground on Monday.

“We say ready but you look at the Bundesliga and we can feel a difference in quality and intensity between the first match and the third match.

“When you saw Bayern against Dortmund in the third match you feel immediately, ‘wow that’s a proper match’.

He further stated that,

“I think the same will happen [here]. Teams are going to progressively reach the level which is what happens in normal pre-season.

“It’s very difficult for teams to arrive at the first game of the season on August 7 or 10 and is really in the top.

With this, the Tottenham manager urges fans to be patient as it might take a while before the games heat up.
